Hunger doesn’t have a holiday. It is usually the holidays when people give the most. However, every distribution we have, our seniors think it is Christmas because they received the gift of food. We at Habitat for Safe Seniors do not want to wait for a holiday to provide food that is so desperately needed on a daily basis. Our biggest concern is that our senior citizens in this community do not suffer from the lack of food they cannot afford.
We would like to see more of the local citizens and businesses make “food” a priority of giving. You never know, we could be serving your mother, grandmother or someone you know that is in a hardship situation you are unaware of. 1 in 4 children and 1 in 5 adults struggle with hunger every day.
This November, SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits will be cut for all participants. Most of our senior clients do not even receive these benefits and live on a very small fixed income. In addition, they now have additional people in their household because of unfortunate financial circumstances that have fell upon their sons and daughters. We have seen a tremendous increase of our elderly in the area taking in their children and grandchildren with no additional income.
We as a small and local nonprofit are trying to help this fight to end hunger in this area by providing food to those in need. We cannot do this without YOUR SUPPORT. We need you to help us fight hunger and make a contribution. Yes the Holidays are coming very soon, but please don’t wait to make your contribution people are going hungry now. We would also like to see a few good volunteers.
